Tea Towels or Dish Towels?

Everyone has a drawer in their kitchen stuffed to the brim with tea towels of different shapes, sizes, and patterns. There’s plenty of good reasons to have that drawer full of towels.  When your kids leave a crumb or two (too many) on the counter or you're in search for that perfect "pop" of color to add in the kitchen or you just need to spruce up your dining room decor, these do-it-all kitchen cloths come in handy to wipe up any spills, dry dishes, and add a touch of style and warmth to your kitchen.

The Dictionary defines a tea towel as "a cloth for drying dishes."
Most often made of linen, cloth, or a combination of the two, tea towels date back to England in the 18th century, when they were used to insulate tea pots, dry fine china, and cover baked goods. During this time, embroidered tea towels were popular gifts, often monogrammed with initials for friends and family.  As the times changed, so have most tea towels.  You can find many different styles of tea towels now, from casual & simple, to the ever popular towels with funny sayings and quotes, to a more formal conservative look.  People love to express themselves through their home decor especially in the heart of the home, the kitchen.

What exactly is the difference between a tea towel and a dish towel?

Call 'em tea towels, call 'em dish towels: By definition, tea towels are only made of linen or cotton, whereas dish towels can also be made of terry cloth. Both styles of towels, however, are roughly the size of a hand towel, ranging from 16″ x 28″ to 18″ x 30″.

For a last-minute hostess gift, cut a baguette in half and wrap it in a towel. Attach a jar of your favorite jam for extra sweetness, maybe wrap up a bottle of fine wine with the tea towel, or try adding a bouquet of fresh flowers.
You could bundle almost anything in a tea towel to add a homemade, organic touch. Tea towels are a great multi functioning item to have in every home! Looking for some quality tea towels?
